Most Odiya youths had a near heartbreak with the marriage of Sona Mohapatra with Ram Sampath. She was a style and beauty icon in Orisha (well, she still is) - and perhaps only a versatile singer-composer and talented genius like Ram Sampath could deserve to become the husband of Sona Mohapatra. Born to a Tamilian father and Kannadiga mother, Sampath grew up in Chembur, and he was the judge of MTV Rock On (Season 1) in 2009. Both Ram Sampath and Sona Mohapatra also sang for Aamir Khan's Satyamev Jayate in 2012, and the couple rose to fame since then. Sona Mohapatra and Ram Sampath are also partners in their music production house OmGrown Music. The present address of Sona Mohapatra is Mumbai, where she stays with her husband and runs their own studio.
Sona is passionate about Oriya music, the culture she belongs to, and feels sorry that it is yet to make any gross influence on the mainstream Bollywood music like Punjabi, Bengali and Southern musical styles.
