Give your child strain free study environment
StudyLite LED Table lamps have been developed keeping foremost needs of students in mind. It has been co-created with an expert team from Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai – India’s foremost eye hospital. The product is marketed by BPL Technovision. Notably, it is the only study lamp in the country that is certified to be safe for eyes. The lamp is designed and developed based on extensive research on the essential
components of lighting and student’s reading habits. High quality LEDs are used in lamp, thus making it good for eyes without any harmful effects of UV or IR radiations. StudyLite is designed to provide flicker-free white light thereby solving the over-illumination problem and ensuring the light is ideal for even for long period of continuous study.
StudyLite is also good for the environment
Do you know that using incandescent bulbs to lighten up your house can put your future generations into abyss of darkness? Such lighting systems consume excessive energy and emit greenhouse gases in already polluted environment. Keeping the harmful effects of energy wastage in mind, many countries are moving from incandescent bulbs to energy efficient LED bulbs that are eco-friendly, and don’t emit any harmful radiations. Many production houses are also producing cost-effective and energy-efficient bulbs and lights. With its premium quality LED lights, StudyLite provides good quality light while consuming very little power. The lamp is also available with a solar charger variant.
Key highlights
  • Multiple Options: StudyLite is currently available in four colors – Black, White, Yellow and Red
  • Compact design and rechargeable: To make the design compact, high quality rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery packs were used. The battery packs are charged automatically when plugged to mains power with an over-charge protector to safeguard the batteries. This makes StudyLite convenient to use: there is no need for separate charging. The StudyLite can be kept always plugged on to AC mains. If power fails StudyLite will automatically switch over to back-up battery power to provide uninterrupted light.
  • Long power back-up: Given the severity of power cuts in many parts of India, StudyLite was designed to provide back-up light for 6 hours for uninterrupted studying. As light source premium quality white light LEDs are chosen, LEDs consume only 10% of energy when compared to ordinary incandescent bulbs.
  • Flicker free: StudyLite is designed to operate over 100-260 V of mains power (using AC adaptor) to take into account wide voltage fluctuations in many areas – a boon for students suffering from power outages across the country. To make StudyLite child-safe, the lamp is designed to operate on a low 12 V DC system.
  • Eco-friendly: The lamp consumes very little power and has long life due to use of high quality LEDs. The lamp also has the provision to be charged by a Solar Power Panel (available as an optional accessory). This makes StudyLite a highly eco-friendly product.
  • Compact batteries: To make the design compact, high quality rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery packs were used. The battery packs are charged automatically when plugged to mains power with an over-charge protector to safeguard the batteries. There is no need for separate charging as it can always be plugged to AC mains. If power fails StudyLite will automatically switch over to back-up battery power to provide uninterrupted light.
  • Completely Safe: Child-safe as it operates at only 12V with no heat, UV or infra-red radiation
  • Red dot Award winner: BPL StudyLite won the coveted 2010 international red dot award for product design from Design Zentrum, Germany. The prestigious product design award is given by an 28 member international jury on the basis of  degree of innovation, functionality, quality, ergonomics, durability and ecological sounds. BPL StudyLite was the only Indian product that won this award and it was chosen from 4,252 entries by 1,635 companies from 57 countries across the world.
BPL StudyLite is a perfect amalgamation of form and function. Functionally, it uses high performance LED light that is ideal for human eyes. This study lamp is ‘green’ because it uses the LED, the so-far most energy efficient light producing device. With its own back-up system the BPL StudyLite can provide uninterrupted light upto 6 hours –

The StudyLite design is a combination of consumer response to an idea, and Abhijit Bansod’s design brilliance to deliver a product that is a synergy of simplicity in form and function coming together. When lit the StudyLite would look like a halo of light hovering over the head of a child. Sankara Nethralaya has tested this StudyLite with 18 subjects in the age bracket of 13 to 25 years who were screened for normal vision parameters. For all the 18 subjects, variance in the visual functions such as Visual acuity and Contrast Sensitivity (using SVIS Chart), Color vision (using achromatic setting), Stereopsis (using Titmus Stereo Test), Tear function (using Schirmer’s strips), and Reading speed (using SNREAD) are checked and effects found in the analyzed parameters are well within the clinically accepted values.

Given the severity of power cuts in many parts of India, while developing StudyLite, one of the main intents was to provide back-up light for 6 hours for uninterrupted studying. As light source premium quality white light LEDs are chosen, LEDs consume only 10% of energy when compared to ordinary incandescent bulbs. With LEDs the battery back-up last up to 6 hours. To make the design compact, high quality rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery packs were used.
