Wikipedia's birthday bash in Bangalore

Slated to be held at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, the event will see Wikimedia Foundation experts and members of the community coming together. The day-long event commences at 9 a.m. The agenda includes sessions to introduce Wikimedia projects to the public with a view to spur both consumption and creation of knowledge on various Wikimedia projects, i.e. expand the community. There would also be updates from various Wikimedia projects. Skill-sets that help one become a Wiki editor such as image creation, map creation, keeping an eye out for random vandalism attacks, will be discussed.

“Our celebrations are open to participation by anyone who wants to join in reflecting on our collective accomplishments and goals for the future,” says Tinu Cherian, a Wikipedian involved in organising the Bangalore event. Similar events are being held in at least 35 cities across the country, and over 120 around the globe.
