On the very first day of the year, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) launched a Facebook page encouraging citizens to bring errant bus drivers to book. PMPL has made a plea to the people to post pictures of drivers using mobile phones while driving and post it on its Facebook page along with details like license plate number, the date, time and place of the incident, and the contact details of the complainant. The last part can get potentially scary since the accused bus driver has easy access to the Facebook page.
Even if you aren't usually the vigilante type, PMPL will make it worth your while with a reward of Rs. 1,000 for each photo of wayward bus drivers you upload on their wall. However, at the time of uploading this article, the public response was lukewarm. In one instance, a PMPL official even asked the complainant to file a formal complaint, which pretty much makes the FB page redundant. While the idea is novel, proper execution is needed for success. Unfortunately, that seems to be lacking here.
