Attach a DSLR video camera onto an unmanned, remote control helicopter and you have the ‘Helicam’. This DIYer has made a career out of RC aerial videography with his helicopter and Canon 7D DSLR video camera.
Some extra work is being done on the Helicam prototype, such as adding an autonomous auto-pilot with GPS which allows for precise flights. Plus, a 5.8 GHz video downlink feed that will help to monitor the shoots from the ground. A lot of work has gone into stabilizing the entire machine for smooth shots. Compared to traditional aerial photography, the Helicam is extremely cost effective and produces superb results.
