Jaipur: Riding on a devastating figure of eight wickets for 10 runs by debutant Deepak Chahar, Rajasthan on Monday dismissed the formidable-looking Hyderabad for paltry 21 runs, lowest-ever total in the Ranji Trophy in a group A Plate division match at the Sawai Mansingh stadium.
In fact, it was a 75-year old record that was broken on Monday. In the first Ranji Trophy season in 1934-35 Southern Punjab were bowled out for 22 chasing 114 against Northern India, which was the lowest total so far.
The 18-year-old medium pacer used the conditions perfectly to make a dream start to his first class career. The other pacer of the team, Pankaj Singh, too chipped in with the remaining two wickets.
Rajasthan skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar elected to field in the plate division match where Chahar made the dream debut.
Hyderabad's innings lasted only 15.3 overs and 78 minutes.
In reply, the home side reached 45/1 at lunch, with the experienced duo to Aakash Chopra and Kanitkar at the crease.
