Fujitsu has launched the Stylistic Q702 Windows 8 hybrid in India for Rs 69,000. The Q702 is a 11.6-inch Windows 8 tablet that comes with a keyboard dock that has a number of extra ports, and a extra 4-cell battery.

Bharti Airtel starts 3G in Delhi; unlimited data usage at 2,000

 New Delhi: Telecom major Bharti airtel today launched third generation (3G) services, that offer LIVE and on-demand TV channels, video calling and high-speed internet access, in Delhi and NCR.

The company has launched its services in Delhi and the National Capital Region spanning Gurgaon, Faridabad and Noida powered by 1,800-plus 3G sites, including Flickr, Twitter, Facebook and other social network accounts, Bharti airtel President (Mobile Services) Atul Bindal told reporters here. Airtel's 3G services are already in the seven cities of Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Mysore, Manipal, Udipi and Jaipur and will be available in all 13 3G-licence circles by March 2011. We are also in talks with other service operators to provide services across India," Bindal added.

Customers can choose from airtel's easy-to-understand 3G tariff plans, which have been crafted to prevent 'bill shock' and help customers monitor their consumption of data with personalised data usage limits and alerts.

"We expect to cover 40-45 cities with our 3G services in one month (by March end) and for the year ahead (next year by March) we expect to have our network coverage by over 1,000 cities. Data Average Revenue per User (ARPU) showing up very nicely because of investment have already been made in," Bindal said.

airtel 3G also allow customers enjoy a variety of exciting service offerings including mobile TV, video calls, high-speed internet and video capabilities on social networks. airtel 3G Mobile TV at an affordable price of Rs 40 for 20 minutes per week. The company is offering video call rates at 5 paise per second.

The company has offered different plans like pay as you go offers for all the existing airtel customers who want to experience the 3G internet this plan will be there where they have to pay the prevailing rates as on 2G services.

Flexishield plan has a combination of free data usage and low inbuilt volume based charging rate with a bill cap of 2,000.

To download 2GB data prepaid and postpaid customers have to pay 750. Under the Flexishield plan the customer has to pay 675 for 1.25 GB free data download with 3G speed till total data bill reaches 2,000, after that no charges on data access with speed of 20kbps.

Airtel has also introduced a first of its kind internet usage calculator that will help customers monitor and analyse their current internet data usage and choose an airtel 3G plan accordingly.

Green palm-size computer for just Rs 5,000

JAIPUR: While experts from the Commonwealth countries are discussing ways to take the IT revolution to the rural heartland, a Hyderabad-based company has come out with a practical device by designing a palm-size computer which will cost as much a "decent" mobile phone and uses just 5 watts of power. If there is no power, it uses a solar panel.

The computer is on display at the SMS convention centre at Rambagh where a three-day Commonwealth and information technology meet is on. "The computer will cost you just Rs 5,000 is empowered with clean green technology," said V Divakar, business manager, elLoka Techsolutions Pvt Ltd, which designed the product.

The company claims it is a replacement of the standard CPU. It weighs hardly 100 gm and consumes less than 5 watts. It comes with one GB of user space with expandable user option and applications like Word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, Youtube, Facebook, Google Docs and audio video player.

The computer had many other qualities. It is a much cheaper and effective alternative to a personal computer. The green computer known by its acronym GreCo' gives enormous amount of flexibility and affordability. Designed to fit in a palm-sized box, the home computer comes with a keyboard and a in-built mouse to be connected to LCD monitors, LCD TVs etc as display units.

"It could help browsing internet if connected to a basic GPRS network through a cell phone to experience internet on 3G network. The innovative computing device provides smart accessibility in rural type environment," claims Divakar. It breaks all the existing communication barriers and bridges the long-prevailing gaps. The device comes with advantages in-built and pre- loaded to make the computing feasible to everyone and provide hassle- free experience, he claims.

The device is designed to deliver zero maintenance and comes with a licensed HomeOS operation system with no cost to the user. It is eco- friendly as it can effectively use solar power by maximising the computing utility and reducing e-waste, he claims.

Reliance Infotel's LTE ready tablet for Rs 8,000

Mukesh Ambani's company Reliance Infotel, which is the only company with pan India spectrum to launch BWA services, has plans of selling tablets at less than Rs 8,000.
Just to have an idea how cheap Infotel's proposed tablet will be, consider that it will be about one fourth the price of a high end device such as Samsung's Galaxy Tab, which costs Rs 35,000; or a third of the price of a medium range device like the Olivepad from Olive Communications, which sells at Rs 27,000. Of course, prices in general might go down by the time Infotel's tablet is available.
Our sources tell us that the company is currently testing tablets from almost 15 Taiwanese vendors. It has already decided that it will use LTE technology for its network.
Infotel is likely to announce its plans in the first quarter of 2011 and will start network roll-out soon after.
While the specs of the tablet are not known, our sources are certain that it will use LTE, or Long Term Evolution high speed broadband technology.
Apart from that some of Infotel's tablets are expected to run on Android OS and the cheapest ones might use custom Java based operating systems.
It is said that tablets will be key to the mass market adoption of broadband and Infotel is expected to ensure that access devices are cheap, the same as Reliance Communications did when it entered the market with CDMA almost a decade ago.
India has been a laggard as far as broadband adoption goes, and analysts have pointed fingers at two main aspects, device cost and lack of content.
Infotel hopes that it is solving at least one of these problems. The company said in a presentation to its investors that it will also concentrate on creating an eco system to ensure quality content, and we expect them to already be working on it.

TCS to hire 50,000, 50 percent from campuses

New Delhi: Indian IT services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is expected to hire more than 50,000 employees in this financial year earlier target of 30,000 persons. TCS will hire 50 percent more students from campuses for 2011-12. TCS will start visiting campuses from November. TCS, the country's largest IT firm, during the July-September quarter, added 10,717 employees compared to 7,522 in October-December 2007. TCS has upgraded its gross hiring target from 40,000 to 50,000 on the back of higher demand. The total headcount of the company is 1.74 lakh at the end of September 2010. Similarly, rival Infosys is stepping up its hiring plans for the next few quarters and has announced to hire 40,000 new employees, up from the earlier projection of 36,000. The current hiring by the company has been the highest in the last three years. The company added 7,646 employees during the July-September quarter. At TCS, the attrition rate increased marginally to 14.1 percent in July-September from 13.1p percent during the preceding April-June quarter. In case of Infosys, it went up from 15.8 percent to 17 percent.The recovery in business environment has led IT majors like Infosys and TCS to hire aggressively again. This comes after more than a year of muted hiring during the global economic downturn as clients cut IT budgets to tide over the slowdown. Software firms are also hiring aggressively to cope up with the high attrition rates as demand for experienced professionals’ returns.

Official reports say that TCS is planning to expand its China operations in the coming years, for which it need to hire people to manage capacity. "Though we have one of the lowest attrition numbers in the industry, they are not acceptable and we will work towards bringing this down," said Ajoy Mukherjee, Vice-President and Head, Global Human Resources of TCS.
